KWIRING _ Denis Mark 1964 - 2004
The heinous approach is done. The summit is
secure. The final peak has been bagged and there will be no rappels. The
view must be staggering because Denis has decided to stay. Denis Mark
Kwiring was born May 10, 1964 and died unexpectedly May 20, 2004. He will be
dearly missed by his wife Joyce; parents Waldemar and Hildegund; brother
Gunther, sister Gail (Brent Stoll) and their children, Logan, Marijke and
Caleb; brother-in-law Ron Woods (Val) and many relatives and friends. Denis
sought to recharge his soul in the mountains. Ice climbing, mountain biking,
backpacking and backcountry skiing restored Denis. He gave freely of his
time and was a dedicated volunteer to many organizations. Denis was also a
scholar, receiving the Leo Gittlesen Award from The Study of the Presidency,
an academic think tank, focusing on the United States Presidency. Denis was
the only Canadian ever to receive this award and remained a Fellow with the
organization. Denis earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of
Calgary in 1999, majoring in Political Science with a minor in History.
Denis had a deep-seated love of books and music. He had an extensive
collection of books on many topics including the mountains and mountain
culture. He avidly collected music and knew many arcane facts regarding the
artists in his collection. His passion for the outdoors was surpassed only
by his love for his partner and wife Joyce. He will be dearly missed. A
Celebration of Denis' life will occur at Nakoda Lodge (45 minutes east of
Calgary on Highway 1) on Saturday, May 29, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. Reception to
follow (Call Nakoda Lodge for directions, 403-881-3949). Bring your hiking
gear and take the remainder of the day to enjoy the mountains that Denis
loved. Arrangements entrusted to MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME and CEMETERY.
